Omaha Beach was one of five key targets in the Allied invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II. Today (June 6, 2019) marks the 75th anniversary of this operation — now known as “D-Day" — which began the liberation of Nazi-occupied France. With its high cliffs, the 5-mile (8 km) stretch of Omaha Beach had heavier casualties than any of the other four targets — Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
